How to Choose A Facial Skin Care Product

Wednesday, April 8th, 2009

Whenever we talk about skin care products, facial care products are the most important consideration. There are a lot of facila care products available in the market. The most popular are those that are used for your four-step daily facial care routine—cleansersnsers and moisturizers, and  toners and exfoliation. Although toners and exfoliation are optional, and not many people use them as such.

Facial skin care products are classified into:

  •  Gender. Facial skin care products are different for  men and women
  •  Skin type. Different skin type will also require different facial products to use; thus there are facial skin products for oily skin,  for dry skin, for normal skin and for sensitive skin
  •  Age. Various facial skin care products can be bought for the old and for the young.
  •  Skin disorder. There are also facial skin care products for the treatment of various skin orders like eczema, acne, skin allergies, etc.

So before buying any facial skin care products, determine first  your skin type. However, remember that the skin type changes with age,so you need to constantly evaluate the effectiveness of your facial skin care product. What may work when you were younger may not be effective now.

Choose the facial skin care products that you are most comfortable with. It can be in the form of  creams, lotions, gels, masks etc. One form may work for others but not for you.

Always remember that these products work differently for different people. So make sure you try the product first on a less sensitive part of your skin like the ear lobes, before actually using it.

If you are  suffering from a skin disorder of any kind, go to your dermatologist before you choose the product that you will use.

Finally, after  you have selected the facial skin care product follow the correct procedures for application. Use the correct quantity; it won’t be more effectivbe if you try to put too much on your face. Since facial care is a daily routine, try not to miss a day.

Facial Skin Care Routine

Wednesday, October 1st, 2008

The part of our body that’s obviously noticeable is the face. Most women would like to have a pretty face like those of the celebrities they admire.  But since not everyone is blessed with a goddess-like beauty, keeping your face healthy and zit-free is the best that you can do.

Caring for your face needs discipline. A facial skin care routine is what you need. But this of course needs to be done on a daily basis; thus  requiring a lot of discipline.

Here are the four basic steps in facial skin care:

  • Cleansing is the must-do  in facial skin care routine. It’s the first step. Cleansing helps in removing dust, pollutants, grease and extra oil from your skin, thereby preventing damage to your skin. Put a little amount on your face and neck with a good cleansing lotion or cream. Gently massage it into your skin using upward strokes. Use a soft face tissue or cotton wool to wipe your face in a gentle patting fashion. Never rub your face.  Do this at least twice a day i.e. morning Use water soluble cleansers for best effect.
  • Toning is the next in a facial skin care routine. Toning helps remove all traces of dirt, grease and excess cleanser. However, this can be optional part if you have properly cleansed your face, it can compensate for toning. Instead of making it part of your daily facial skin care routine, you can using toning occasionally especially when you have been exposed to particularly harsh environment or pollution.
  • Exfoliation can be an optional step in everyday routine for facial skin care. But exfoliation is necessary at least once a week or twice depending on your skin type and your environmental conditions. Exfoliation helps the skin to replenish the skin cells every 3 or 4 weeks. As a facial skin care technique, it  helps remove the dead skin cells that block the pores. A owrd of warning, though excessive or harsh exfoliation can also cause damage to your skin.
  • Moisturising. This is the most important part of facial skin care routine. Moisturisers prevent your skin from getting dry. When skin is dry the upper layer skin tends to break and result to dead skin cells. When moisturizing, use light upward strokes. Moisturisers work the best when applied on warm and damp skin.
